Costuming for men.

Shakespeare's plays have been adapted many ways. The Central Theatre Ensemble is portraying Shakespeare's Hamlet in a steam-punk fashion. Steam-punk is a perfect mix of old fashion and modern. It was adapted from the Victorian era and given a Dystopia twist. Hamlet is a very tragic and dark play, the costumes need to portray that as well.

Because most of the characters in Hamlet are of royal blood, the costumes need to be high class and elegant.

Above is a picture of my vision for Hamlet. It is classy and dark. The dreadlocks add a nice touch since most steam-punk characters have them and I envision Hamlet having dreadlocks as well. Hamlet MUST be wearing black throughout the show because Gertrude mentions a few times about being annoyed that he is still in mourning. It is a rebellion streak of Hamlet to be wearing black.

This is what I envision for Polonius. Corsets are very steam-punk. Polonius was a Lord and this costume would well represent him.

This would be a coat for Claudius. Claudius was Hamlet's uncle, who married Gertrude (Hamlet's mother). He is now King of Denmark. This coat is especially royal while still being steam-punk. He should have some color as well because he is not in mourning over the death of the king at all.

Laertes should be wearing a coat quite similar to this. He traveled to Ophelia after hearing about his father's death, this is a suitable traveling coat. He should be in black everytime on stage because he is mourning the loss of his father and later his sister.
